The Five Animal Frolics is one of the oldest sets of exercise as a form of preventative medicine. Based on the movements of animals, this set was developed by a famous Chinese doctor of medicine, Hua Tou, who lived from 110 to 207 AD. The animal forms include the Bear, Deer, Crane, Monkey, and Tiger. Like other high quality sets of qi gong, it works all of the body’s energetic pathways, and opens and closes all the body’s tissues (joints, muscles, connective tissues, internal organs, glands, blood vessels, lymphatic pumps, respiratory system, cerebrospinal system and brain) simultaneously to produce a powerful synergistic effect on the mind, body, and spirit.

The key benefits of each exercise are explained briefly:

Bear: develops rooted power, kidney energy - the adrenal glands and relates to winter and the water element.
Deer: develops grace and relaxation, liver energy and relates to spring and the tree/wood element
Crane: develops balance, lightness, agility and balances the heart energy – the metabolism and relates to summer
and the fire element.
Monkey: develops suppleness, spleen energy - digestion and relates to Indian summer and the soil element.
Tiger: develops muscular strength, lung energy and relates to autumn and the metal element

Northport, New York (Long Island) Society of Chemists Lecture: Finding the Fountain of Youth in Your Diet and Lifestyle

Everyone wants to stay healthy and more youthful as we age. The key to reversing or slowing the aging process lies in understanding the human metabolism. As we get older, the metabolism slows. This results in signs of aging in our body, skin, hair, eyes, mind and sexual function.  The secret to healthy vibrant longevity is in keeping our metabolism high. John will explain how IDX, Integrative Diagnosis of the body, leads to choices in your environment, diet, lifestyle, exercise and body care that can create your own fountain of youth. Be prepared to learn some things about diet and lifestyle that are opposite popular notions.
