Quotes

“Old ideas about health are like old ruts in the road. It takes time to change them. The problem is harder when some of what was learned was correct, but the things that were wrong can make the difference between life and death.”  ~ John Kozinski, MEA

Interview  Questions For Radio and TV

Intro/Credibility
  • You've been teaching about natural healthcare for almost 40 years. What got you interested in the field? I was interested in my late teens in expanding my awareness of life due to some experiences I had when younger. This led me to realize that there was more to life than the day to day existence of survival. I began a journey to research teachings that would help me. A friend had a book by George Osawa. In the book, he explained how happiness results from health, and health comes from natural eating. I tried his suggestions and felt amazing. It spurred me on to learn more and eventually want to  help others recover their health and stay healthy.

On Macrobiotics
  • What does macrobiotics mean? Macrobiotics is a word derived from the ancient Greek language. It literally means “the way of longevity”. In both traditional eastern  and western cultures, they explained how longevity arises from one’s diet and lifestyle. If the diet and lifestyle is following the philosophy of balance, then one creates sustainable health that leads to longevity. Around the globe, wherever cultures followed the philosophy of balance in their daily life, they attained good health and longevity.
  • What is a "macrobiotic lifestyle?  A macrobiotic lifestyle is one that is based on the principle of balance.  If we apply the philosophy of balance to our activities, sleep, relationships, environment and way of thinking, then we are living a macrobiotic lifestyle. Traditional sayings about lifestyle such as early to bed and early to rise, reflect the past orientation of people to the philosophy of balance.

On Diet
  • How is our diet affecting our health?  In the ancient  medicine of  India, the importance of food is illustrated by their description of our physical flesh. In this tradition, the body is called the food body. Our body is made out of the food we eat and at the same time we run on the food that we eat. If our food is healthy and balanced, the structure of the body is strong and we have enough energy to fuel our body and mind. If the food is imbalanced, or nutritionally bankrupt, the body eventually degenerates, and we run out of steam. This leads to poor physical, emotional, and mental health, and disease.
  • Can a macrobiotic diet heal disease?  It depends. There is no one macrobiotic diet. The macrobiotic diets in many books are fasting diets with limited fat, protein and calories. This type of diet can heal certain conditions, but is unsuitable for sustainable health.  For other conditions, the diet must have ample fats, proteins and calories. A truly macrobiotic way of eating matches the person’s condition according to the philosophy of balance. If the correct food recommendations are followed, disease can be healed. I have counseled over 10,000 people and have seen people heal with the right foods being eaten.
On Lifestyle
  • What lifestyle recommendations do you make?  I recommend that people make positive changes in these areas: their way of eating, physical and mental activities, relationships, rest and sleep, environment, body care and attitude. Recommendations include eating regular meals, moderate and healing types of exercises, engaging and challenging the mind, get adequate sleep and recreation, natural fibers for clothing, and developing a peaceful mind through meditation like practices.
